Froebel College of Education / Coláiste Oideachais Froebel

Diversity at Froebel College of Education

Froebel College welcomes students from diverse backgrounds including students from all socioeconomic backgrounds and ethnic groups, students of all sexual orientations, students from a wide age range and students with disabilities. A more diverse College community will develop our ability to respond in a nuanced way to the educational needs of the children of 21st Century Ireland. Students wishing to study at the Froebel college can apply though the HEAR access route.

We are currently working in partnership with the Irish Traveller Movement to be considered for the award of a Yellow Flag. www.itmtrav.ie/keyissues/yellowflag.

To this end, we have established a Diversity Committee in the College that is committed to ensuring that the College is a welcoming place for all students and that our policies support an inclusive environment. Our committee includes staff and students, including Erasmus students and representatives from the following organisations: STAG, The Africa Centre, The Islamic Centre and OUTREACH.

Amongst other events, the Diversity Committee has organised intercultural lunches and information seminars. We regularly invite speakers from minority groups to dialogue with us so we can become more sensitive to the educational needs and possibilities of all the nation's children. The College Diversity Committee has submitted a proposal to support the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council Strategy for Integration 2012-2015.
