Yoga

Our Yoga club had just been established in the last few weeks and it provides a brilliant way to end the week on a nice relaxing note! We meet on Friday afternoons after college and start the weekend leaving the weeks challenges behind us. We are currently exploring the area of Hatha Yoga which includes traditional postures, meditation, breath work and relaxation. The class has a wide range of ability with many of us beginners, and each week we learn lots of techniques to help de-stress and relax. It's a brilliant way to calm you down before an exam and even at the dentist! It's also an area that can be easily integrated into the school day with short breaks for breathing/stretching and is excellent for centering children. To this end our Yoga teacher - Sharon Gleeson who has vast experience of working with children will present a workshop on children's Yoga and we will learn some valuable skills which we can bring into the classroom. Just as importantly Yoga is a valuable addition to the life of a busy student and really helps you unwind in time for the weekend.

Environmental Society

The environmental society plays a very active role in the life of Froebel College. The society aims to promote environmental issues around the college in an interesting and entertaining way. Every year the society holds many events and trips and this year an overnight trip to Blessington has been planned. This promises to be a great weekend away at which many adventure and outdoors activities are planned. Along with this many events are held throughout the year including Wellie Wednesday (Thursday 22nd) where ones skills at Wellie throwing and Willie decorating will be tested.

Earlier this year potatoes were sewn (in the garden), picked and washed in Froebel and a potato day was held at which everyone in college got the chance to sample the fruits of all the hard work! The environmental group is an extremely energetic society which meets regularly; just keep an eye out for notices around the college. Everyone is invited to join!

Films@Froebel

2008/9 was the inaugural year of Films@Froebel and to date it has been a great success! Our aim is to provide all Froebel students with a relaxing and friendly escape from their busy academic lives. All screenings are free of charge with refreshments provided. We always invite our students to nominate films of their choosing and from this we select a shortlist and the top choice for the next screening. Films are screened on a fortnightly basis on the college campus. To date we have shown a wide variety of genres including comedy, documentary, short films, music videos, world cinema and themed-films suiting particular events in the calendar. If you're interested in getting involved and attending future screenings, email filmsatfroebel@gmail.com

Froebel Book Club

Providing a regular opportunity for discussing and enjoying stories is the aim of the Book Club. We meet every 3 or 4 weeks depending on the academic calendar during a Tuesday lunchtime. We invite the student body to nominate their suggestions for each meeting and we choose the text based on these nominations. We address a range of different kinds of literature ranging from children's fiction to historical stories, graphic novels and Irish-language narratives. These meetings are friendly and relaxed and are all about celebrating books and readers instead of being 'literary'.  If you're interested in getting involved and coming along, email froebelbookclub@gmail.com

The Drama Society

The drama society since its foundation this year has gone from strength and is now a recognised society with the support of Trinity College. The society aims to improve ones own dramatic ability focusing on such techniques as facial expression, voice projection etc. The society is invaluable to the college as drama is a curriculum subject in Primary schools and so any extra practice or improvement of skills is of great importance.

The society offers a large range of activities and holds a number of shows and plays throughout the year. The first ever production by the society will be held soon and casting has already begun, with a large amount of interest for parts being shown.

The drama group meets regularly every Thursday at lunch in the drama room and all are invited.
