Senior Sophister or Fourth Year of the Bachelor in Education

For those students who have begun the B.Ed. before September 2010, the optional fourth year for the purpose of obtaining an Honours Degree from Trinity College may be undertaken at any time after the ordinary Degree has been completed. Starting in September 2010 all four years of lectures for the B.Ed. degree will be delivered on the Froebel Blackrock campus. The fourth year lectures will be held in the afternoons, so teaching positions may be held by those who follow the course. Students who successfully undertake this year may proceed to postgraduate studies.

For those who already have a three year B.Ed degree from Froebel and wish to do the Senior Sophister year beginning Sept 27, 2010, we are now receiving applications. In 2010-2011, the 4th year course lectures will run in the first semester on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Thursdays from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. In the second semester, the lecture courses will run on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Thursdays from 4.30 to 6.30 p.m.

All students will be required to pay a Registration Fee which is currently set at €1500 for the whole year. Free tuition fees for this programme are available to students within five years folllowing the award of the three-year Level 7 B.Ed.

For those who begin their B.Ed studies in September 2010, the programme will be accreditated by NUI Maynooth and is designed as a Level 8 Honours degree four year programme. The fourth year of this programme will be delivered starting in September 2013 in the new Froebel Centre for Primary and Early Childhood Education on the Maynooth campus.
