First Steps Reading Award
19 January 2010In February 2010 the first group of students will be awarded a certificate in First Steps Reading here in Froebel College.
First Steps Reading is a resource based on sound theory and research that helps schools and teachers address current literacy challenges in reading
First Steps provides a broad repertoire of processes to support teachers to link assessment, teaching and learning.
It provides a comprehensive range of practical teaching and learning experiences.
Currently all DEIS schools in Ireland are given support in First Steps Reading through the PPDS.
After successfully completing the seven weeks of the module the students will be awarded a certificate in First Steps Reading
The aims of the First Steps course in reading are:
- To understand the elements that makes up a comprehensive approach to the teaching of reading
- To link assessment, teaching and learning
- To enable the student to assess the child's reading and decide the appropriate teaching and learning for each child
